Washing machine made of waste PET awarded
Arçelik, the Turkish white goods manufacturer, is awarded significant prizes for its eco-friendly products and services. The Washing Machine Boiler developed by Arçelik’s R&D unit using recycled PET bottles was awarded the first prize in the category of “Innovative Eco-Friendly Products” during the Environmental Awards ceremony held by Istanbul Chamber of Industry.
“We are the leading company of Turkey in circular economy. We are working hard on prevention of waste at source and waste management. At Arçelik’s R&D laboratories, we use 60 PET bottles per product for Recycled Washing Machine Drums. We recycle 25 million PET bottles per year during the production process of this high-performance eco-friendly product.” said Arçelik’s CEO Hakan Bulgurlu, stressing that sustainability is the focus point of Arçelik’s manufacturing and service processes.
In line with its vision of “Respectful to the World, Respected in the World”, Arçelik established two individual Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) recycling plants in 2014 in Eskişehir and Bolu to restore WEEE to the national economy. Through the campaigns organized, the corporation collects energy- and water-inefficient products and restores them to the economy recycling them. Until now, 160.000 products have been collected through recycling campaigns launched in September.
Arçelik conducts studies that encompass all dimensions of sustainability for the future of the world from waste management to energy and water efficiency and from reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to responsible production and consumption. Recently, the corporation has also been awarded the first prize in “Management” category of the European Business Awards for the Environment organized by the European Commission for its achievements in environmental subjects.
